media art

Most of Nick's interest in media art lies in the realm of what has been termed "physical computing"; breaking the computer out of the stale trope of mouse, screen and keyboard; exploring more tactile, visceral ways of human-computer interaction that not only engage, but also provoke and question.

One of his first works in this area was entitled "HandHeld", which explores the narrative possibilities of video—or moving image—on handheld devices. This was also a final thesis project for his Masters Degree at the School of Creative Media. "HandHeld" was exhibited at the Microwave International Media Arts Festival in November, 2005.

Another project that is currently at the concept stage, is 4to14: the Interactive Elevator.

Currently, Nick is working on a variation of "HandHeld" that further explores this area in the context of a "writing machine" and generative texts.
